Graduate Women Manawatu

Graduate Women Manawatu (GWM) began in 1956 and is still flourishing with a companionable mix of younger and older members.  Our regular meetings feature interesting speakers who are experts in their field, many on issues affecting women and children.  As well as meetings, each year we host a topical debate and co-host with Massey University an international film series.  Both of these public events are held in the Palmerston North City Library. Our Friendship Bridge links with international women post-graduate students studying at Massey Manawatu Campus. We also support displaced women graduates through donations to the GWI Hegg Hoffet Fund.

Members of GWM advocate strongly for women’s and girls’ education through our meetings and through our scholarships which are funded from the profits of our Academic Dress Hire business. These GWM Charitable Trust Awards include post-graduate awards to Massey post graduate students, second chance education awards and Teen Parent awards to students proceeding to tertiary study. We collaborate with the Zonta Club of Manawatu to sponsor a Women in Science & Technology Award and support the national GWNZ awards.
